Girls Who Change the World
A few weeks ago, a number of pupils from Ms Watson's S1 Computing Club entered the Girls who change the World Artificial Intelligence competition.
The competition, sponsored by IBM, was open to schools from all over the UK and attracted around 200 entries.
One of our teams, narrowly missed out on a top 10 finish. Their idea was to create a small AI robot placed between 2 bins that scans litter handed to. It then finds out if it is recyclable or not and places it in the correct bin. The robot would also have a built in reminder to allow the bin users to know when the bins are due to be emptied.
The girls were placed on the reserve list, meaning they probably finished in 11th place overall and narrowly missed out on a place in the finals of the competition in London in July.
Well Done Girls!
