Aldi and Team GB visit

Whitburn Academy were pleased to welcome Aldi and Team GB to the school on 8th March.

08 March
Team GB and Aldi visit 2018

Students were given an inspirational talk by Team GB athlete, Polly Swann. Polly is a world renowned rower who achieved a silver medal at the Rio Olympics. Polly's talk illustrated how she triumphed over adversity  to reach her goal and the students were given an insight into how the challenges they face in school, university and in work will be similar to her experience. Her key message echoed that through hard work, determination and a never give up attitude you can reach your goal.

Polly was followed by Emily Hutchison , who is an Area Manager for Aldi. In Emily's talk students were shown how many of the attributes that Polly exemplifies are required for the world of work. Emily shared her knowledge of the Company and the fantastic opportunities available to our students in ALDI.(for further information on apprenticeship opportunities please contact Mrs Sutherland or Mr Durkin)

The students were then challenged to a competition to stacking tins in a pyramid against the clock and more importantly against the Olympic champion Polly. Unfortunately, none of our students triumphed with the worse performance coming from the PE departments Miss Buchanan.

We would like to again offer our thanks to Emily and Polly for attending today and for Aldi for providing such an excellent opportunity.
