Cyber Security Workshop

On Friday 26th January, Mrs Williamson and Ms Jorgenson's Higher Computing class took part in an online Digital World Cyber Security Workshop.

Cyber Security Workshop 2018

The workshop, which was online from 11.30am - 12.30pm, was open to schools all across Scotland and the task set was to rob a bank!   Don't worry though, it wasn't a real bank! Following the instructions given, the pupils had to hack into the fictitious 'Strathclyde Bank' and 'steal' as much money from as many different accounts as possible.   In the end over £146 million was 'stolen' from the accounts.

The purpose of the workshop was to demonstrate the implications of a hacking attempt and also to discover how a large company or financial institution could protect themselves from attack. To do this, they had to think like a hacker.

The pupils enjoyed taking part in the workshop and learned a number of valuable lessons in keeping their data safe online.
