Author Visit
On Monday 18th December, Whitburn Academy welcomed Cathy MacPhail to talk to a selection of s1-s3 pupils about her novels and the art of creative writing.
An interesting talk was filled with hints and tips to improve the writing skills of pupils, especially her insight into how she builds suspense and intrigue into her novels.
What was particularly inspiring was when she told the enthralled junior pupils that "the best way to become a writer was to read books" and to deconstruct and reconstruct them, asking yourself "what if 'x' did or didn't happen". Advice that will be invaluable to the budding writers of Whitburn Academy.
This was the latest in a long line of authors to visit the Academy over the years. Past writers include Keith Gray, Kathy Ford and James Docherty and we look forward to inviting more in the future.
