Being competent in English is the key to success in many aspects of life and work. Skills in English Language and Communication are important in most occupations.
A qualification in English is almost always required for entry to Further and Higher Education.
Furthermore, English gives you the opportunity to study a wide range of literature which can be very enjoyable, as well as providing a broader view of the world and a greater understanding of everyday issues.

- Library periods where students are encouraged to read independently and take part in the department's Reading Scheme.
