S1 Masterclass and S2 Project Based Learning
S1 and S2 Pupils are timetabled for a double period of Masterclasses (S1) and Project Based Learning (S2). Classes rotate every term so that every pupil will experience a wide range of skills over the year.
Masterclasses and Project Based Learning are based on skills development. Whitburn Academy views the development of skills in our pupils as an essential part of the curriculum.
Examples of S1 Masterclasses are:
- Film Making
- Spy Academy (Morality decision making and debating)
- Dragon's Den (Entrepreneurial Tasks)
- Gardening
- Campaigning for Kindness (Make your own badges, t-shirts, bags)
- Acting for Film and Screen
- Football
- Thinkflix: Philosophy Through Film
Examples of S2 Project Based Learning are:
- Game Theory
- Dungeons and Dragons - building your own boardgame
- Scottish Legal Challenge
- Create your own country
- Survivors: Rebuilding Civilisation
- Design a product to improve the school experience.
- Daydream Believers - Threads
- Storytelling
