Pen Pals at Whitburn Academy
Whitburn Academy pupils have not only been improving their writing skills, but also developing friendships by sending and receiving old fashioned letters with their pen pals in Australia.

The initiative was started by our librarian Mrs Skinner and her counterpart in Mentone and the letter exchange is still going strong after two years. Mentone is a suburb in Melbourne and the school is a stone's throw from the beach - very different from Whitburn! Letters from our pupils are batched together before posting and there is great excitement when we receive our replies from Australia.
