Mining Museum Visit
On 21st May fifty S3 pupils and their teachers enjoyed a trip to the National Mining Museum which is based at the Lady Victoria Colliery near Edinburgh.
We were given a tour of the pithead and went into an underground roadway where we saw a 40 foot coal shearer . We also saw the massive winding engines which are still in working order. In the afternoon pupils enjoyed looking at the exhibitions and got the chance to dress up and join in the scenes of mining life. This was a great opportunity to recreate the atmosphere and experiences of what it must have been like in Whitburn in the past. The pupils had a memorable day and were congratulated on their good manners and the way they embraced the whole experience.
