Technology Used

At Whitburn Academy, we are very keen to pursue new technology and to introduce it across the school.

Information Technology

At present, we have approx. 370 desktop computers in use across the school.  We have 8 dedicated computing labs across the school, these consist of 3 CDT rooms, 3 Business Studies rooms and 2 Computing Science rooms.   Our desktop computers are supplied by HP and in most cases are less than 5 years old.

In addition to the computing labs, we have 17 mobile classrooms, which consist of a class load of netbooks, iPads or MacBooks which are stored in a trolley and can be moved to where ever they are required. All our Teaching Staff are provided with a laptop to use in class and at home if required.

The majority of our classrooms contain interactive Promethean Panels with many of them wall mounted and others trolley mounted, allowing them to be moved to different locations around the building if required.

Our IT/AV staff is made up of Mr Prentice (Network Manager) and Mr Hawthorn (IT/AV Technician), who work hard to maintain our Technology. They do a wide range of tasks from replacing hardware to installing new software. They also provide school wide support for over 800 pupils and 100 staff.
