Christmas Concert

On 19th December, Whitburn Academy's annual Christmas Concert took place. The audience was treated to a fantastic show by our pupils, staff and Music Department.

The show began with the percussion ensemble playing 'Walking in the Air', next was a Vocal Solo from John Walker, who sang 'Bring him Home'.   The Woodwind ensemble played 'Little Donkey' and was quickly followed by a 'Christmas Medley Special' piano solo from Christopher McLaughlin.   Next the staff and senior choir sang 'Somewhere only we know' followed by the Rock, Pop and Blues ensemble playing and singing the 'St James Infirmary Blues'.

The Head and Deputy Head Boys and Girls then joined with the Wind Band to tell the story of the Night before Christmas.   The Junior choir which was made up of pupils from S1-S4 sang 'Flashlight' and 'Valerie'.   The Brass Ensemble played 'My Heart will go on', Chim Chim Cheree' and 'Jingle Bell Rock'.   A Cello solo from Mia Lewington was followed by the Wind band playing 'El Marinero'.   The Guitar Ensemble then played 'For the love of God'.    The Flute Ensemble played 'Away in a Manger' and 'Auld Lang Syne'.

The community carol was 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas' where the audience also joined in to sing this.   The string ensemble played 'Christmas Holiday Hoedown' and the big finale was the entire cast of the concert playing and singing along to 'I Wish it could be Christmas Every Day'.

Thank you to the pupils and staff who took part in the concert, Mr Wood and Mr Hawthorn who set up and operated the lighting and sound, the pupils who designed the programmes, the Office staff, the Instrumental Instructors and to Miss Murray, Mr McManus and Miss Haggart, the Music Teachers who all contributed to a fantastic show.
